ICDL 2020 Social Program

ICDL 2020 will have an exciting social program, including the conference dinner, welcome and a farewell as well as coffee breaks and lunch that would offer an excellent opportunity for meeting with known and new colleagues. Alternatively, there are four cafeterias within the university campus, and there are plenty of restaurants at walking distance from the university.

Welcome Reception

Date: Monday 7 September
Time: 18:30 - 20:30

Patio del Cañon

The reception will be offered at Patio del Cañon (Canyon Courtyard), which has a privileged sight of the Pacific sea and the Valparaíso bay. Its name comes from a large canyon dating from the Victorian era that sits in the courtyard. It is located just outside the former boarding school, so has historically been the meeting place for students to relax and enjoy their gardens.

Gala Dinner

Date: Wednesday 9 September
Time: 18:30 - 22:00

Enjoy Viña del Mar

The Gala Dinner will be held at the Enjoy Viña, which is the municipal Casino of the nearby city of Viña del Mar. Originally built in 1930, it is located in the most touristic sector of the city, at only 4.7 kilometers from the conference venue. Due to its preserved architectural design, its proximity to the coastline, and its extensive infrastructure and gardens, the Casino is ideal for cultural and social events, such as plays, concerts and the City Festival gala dinner.

Farewell Reception

Date: Thursday 10 September
Time: 18:30 - 20:30

Edificio A

The farewell reception will be offered in the hall of Edificio A, which is the main building of the University, where the rectory, the council rooms, the Aula Magna and the event rooms are located. This spacious hall is located on the ground floor of the building, with decorating murals, columns and access to the traditional main staircase of the University.

Other Activities

On Friday, 11th September 2020 , the day after the conference, optional activities will be available for an additional fee. These activities, will be managed by a local tourism agency, are:

Valparaíso is one of the oldest cities in Chile, and it was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 2003. Greater Valparaíso is the third-largest metropolitan area in Chile. Its historic quarter with multiple urban elements that shows the cultural and architectural wealth of the city. Valparaíso is a coloured city, with a natural amphitheatre-like setting with impressive open views, characterized by a natural urban fabric adapted to the hillsides.

La Sebastiana
La Sebastiana

La Sebastiana was the Valparaíso residence of one of the most famous Chilean poet and diplomat Pablo Neruda, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful view of the harbour, the original architecture of the city as well as the furniture and artworks collected by Pablo Neruda.

Casas del Bosque Vineyard
Casas del Bosque Vineyard

Casas del Bosque Vineyard is a boutique winery whose vineyard is located about 30 km from the Venue and is specialized in Sauvignon Blanc wine with excellent reports also on Pinot Noir and Syrah wines. They offer lunch and tasting sessions.

Finally, in addition to the social events offered by the organizing committee attendees will have plenty of option for self-organized social activities. The host university is located at a top-rated Summer destination for Chilean and tourist from neighbouring countries. Also, Greater Valparaíso is an important educational area with multiple universities and other educational centres, all of which contributes to a large and diverse cultural offer.
